Environmental Education Programmes held in Sivar Village – from September 16 to 30, 2009 |

The Zagros Project in cooperation with the Iranian Cheeta Society held educational programmes in Sivar village from 16 – 30 September 2009 to increase public knowledge on environmental issues. |

In a part of these programmes, held following baseline surveys and PRA sessions, the village women and men gathered in the Hosseinieh of the village and actively engaged in discussions on fundamental issues of biodiversity and ecosystem, environmental pollution, land erosion and its impact on human beings and the environment. |

In another meeting, people eagerly gave an ear to an agriculture expert who delivered an in-depth speech on the methods of reducing the level of environmental pollution caused by over use of fertilizers and chemical pesticides, their adverse impacts as well as the alternative methods. |
| Speaking plainly and warmly, Dr. Azizollah Jafari- faculty member of Yasooj University, who has conducted many researches on plants of Dena, addressed the people and made them aware of diversity of medicinal plants and the plants on the verge of extinction, economic values of medicinal plants and the ways to tackle biodiversity threats. The session which was well attended by the village people, concluded by a Q and A session. |
