Pomegranate Juicing Machine used in Gele Sefid Village - November 2009 |

At the arrival of the pomegranate harvest season, the pomegranate juicing machine bought last year by the Cooperative of Agricultural Products of Mashayekh Women, helped villagers of Gele Sefid to de-seed their harvested pomegranates and automatically produce the juice used in making pomegranate paste. |
| As a joint attempt of the Conservation of Biodiversity in the Central Zagros Landscape Conservation Zone Project and the Agricultural Jihad Organization of Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari, a loan was granted to the Mashayekh Cooperative to purchase the machine. This has refrained the villagers to be involved in the strenuous activity of de-seeding pomegranates by hand. |
| Quoted by Ms. Heidarian- managing director of the cooperative, although most of the people do welcome using the machine due to its high speed and better quality of the produced juice comparing to the traditional method, there still are some who prefer the traditional method. This necessitates dissemination of more information on the benefits of using the machine. |
| In the vicinity of Gele Sefid and its neighboring villages, specifically in Dorak Anari Village, there are many pomegranate orchards. Each year, as fall approaches, the ceremony of making the fresh pomegranate juice and its paste is conducted in GeleSefid and its surrounding villages at the same time. |
